If any of you knew John, or just want to come honor a great guy, please join for the 2nd Annual Grand Prix Legends Memorial Race! I plan to be there.

VOR is running the Second Annual John Sheehan Memorial Race on Friday, February 21 at 8:30 PM Central US time.
John Sheehan (Smiff) was an honoured and active member of VOR. He helped with rule enforcement and many other things, interspersed with humour that was uniquely his.
He served as a Commando in the Australian Armed Forces and was a decorated soldier. One of his Army buddies went on to become Governor-General of Australia (the representative of the Queen in a Commonwealth country)
The VOR admins would have meetings on various topics and speaking to John made us all feel like friends. He seemed tough and at the same time humourous and like a youngster in some ways. He passed away at the far too early age of 69 in December 2008. I guess that sometimes the sprit outlasts the body. As Kim said, “Now we just have memories, but a truckload of 'em!”
He was active in Karting and raced along with his son Kim. I hope that Kim can manage to join us for the Memorial and continue racing with us for the season.
The race will be a non-points race at Intermediate length. There will be no rules other than to race fairly and perhaps toast the memory of Smiff with a sip of beer each time down the Conrod Straight.
