I recently got an early father's day present from my wife and daugther, the Logitech G35 7.1 Surround Gaming Headset! I am using it in a variety of sims, and it's pretty impressive. The headset is not cheap, checking in at about 120 bucks at most sites. I think we got it for $110 at Frys. At any rate, this is without a doubt the best sounding, and best constructed headset I have ever had. It is heavy but very comfortable and comes with 3 different cushion pads that you can pick from to get it just right for your head comfort and size shape.

The cool thing about the mic as well is that when you lift it up away from your mouth it automatically mutes, and then comes back active when you pull it back down. I am running Windows 7 x64 version and there are drivers available from logitech's website. For both 32 and 64 bit. The headset has a 10 foot heavy duty wrapped cable to connect to the PC via a USB connection.

The 7.1 surround is powered by an onboard dolby sound chip. It will obviously sound best in games that support surround sound -- such as iRacing. It is amazing to me how much better this thing sounds in iRacing than my Plantronics stereo setup I had before. You have to make sure that if the game supports surround sound that you enable it of course within the game. If you dont want to use surround sound for a particular app or game you can simply switch the surround off on the left ear of the headset and you get stereo.

Another nice thing about the headset is that all of the controls, volume and some programable buttons are all embedded on the left ear piece. So you dont have anything you have to reach down into your lap or chest for to adjust. Simply put your hand to the left earset and adjust. It is so much easier to do that when racing -- rather than fumble for something.

Only 2 things to complain about

1. When you have this headset on you are immersed in the sound -- so if your wife or someone calls upstairs to you -- you will not hear them , it really blocks out the outside noise in the room ... which is good and bad ... lol.

2. I wish I could turn it up just a little louder in iRacing, but this is more of an issue with balanced sounds in iRacing than anything else -- it's not the headset, but my older plantronics headset was a little louder. But the rich sounds certainly make up for it -- I really like the bass tones.

At any rate, if you have the appetite for a surround gaming headset, I dont think you can go wrong with this one.
