Stock Car Racing Coming to rFactor

    02.17.06

Introducing a preview of the all new National Stock Car Racing Series (NSCRS).

The 1081 Beta can be downloaded here imagespaceinc.com
    noliallc.com
    racecast.rfactor.net

After downloading this file, place it in the root directory of any official rFactor version; 1020, 1040, 1070 and run it. You may want to make a backup of your existing rFactor folder first.

We are making available this beta release of rFactor for the purpose of testing the NSCRS rules. Many options are configurable through the Series Rules File (.rFm) or on a per-track basis. Some can be overridden through the player file. See the rFactor\rFm\NSCRS.rFm file for some details.

Send any feedback to stockcar@rFactor.net, and please limit comments to racing and multiplayer rules (graphics, sounds, AI, and user interface will be addressed later).

Special thanks to members of The US Pits for invaluable assistance on this effort.

Some of the features already incorporated are: Private Qualifying (simultaneous but independent qualifying)
Various yellow flag rules, including how many laps, whether the pits close, when the pits open and to whom, whether the track order is frozen when the full-course yellow is thrown, lucky dog rule, double file restarts, whether caution laps count toward the total, and whether races can finish under caution.
Covered car rules, where setup changes are limited between qualifying and race.
Drive-thru and longest line penalties have been added to stop/go's. Some penalty rules are configurable.
Pit menu configurable on a per-vehicle basis (left/right tire changes, tire pressures, wedge, track bar, spring rubbers, and more).

Partial to do list: Make it configurable whether you can pass before the s/f line on the green (currently you're not allowed to at all, not even on the outside at ovals).
Hold cars at pit exit while the train is going by.
Better choices for whether full-course yellows are called (ranging from very sensitive if somebody gets sideways, to never). The current player file option really only calls a full-course yellow if somebody is stopped on track.
Collision bumping penalty rules. These rules can be used to develop a program for reducing dangerous bump drafting behavior.
    Spotter/commentary.
Better info display (whether pits are open, whether a longest line penalty is being applied by the server, etc.).
Forced upgrades on a per-track basis, based on the vehicle.
    More complex drafting.
Other types of rules (driver swapping, more damage fixing options, etc.).

Texas and Vegas both look pretty good. I noticed the Vegas Track is a night track, and it was well lit, but the lights did not appear working. But it looks pretty good. I didnt turn any laps at either, I simply wached the AI. At first I couldnt get Rockingham to work, and then I Went back to the forums where the track installs were and noticed there had been a patch released for it to prevent the error I was receiving. So got them all working. I will run some laps in a bit.

Ok guys here is some information I got on setups from a guy on RSC
    -----
My test setup is for qualifying. It'll last about 4-5 laps then the engine will blow up.

Adjust the "grill tape" option in the setup from 100% to 25-70, depending on how many laps you need to run.
70 is good for 10 laps, 25 should be good for lots more.

I think I have the car pretty well balanced and it's pretty fast.

BTW- look in your rFactor/UserData folder, i just found 6 setups in there that came with the beta patch, they just didn't go into the correct folders. There's an easy, and a fast setup for joesville, orchard lake oval, and jacksonville.
I think I'll go try those out.

Default here are some screenshots (stockcar rfactor)

ok guys, once I found those setups as mentioned in the previous thread, I was able to get a much better feel for the mod and the physics. I have to say it's very good, I think probably in many ways much better than N2003. The cars feel great. I ran 2 races, 15 laps each against the AI, at Orchard and Josville. Here are a couple of screenshots ...

one thing to note I had to crank the AI up to 120 percent to make them competitive with me (I was using the default FAST setups provided). And I still beat them pretty easily. So not sure how to make them stronger

by the way, for Paul. Don't install this yet over your current rFactor installation. If you do it will screw up VOR and you wont be able to connect to the server Monday night. I have a second install of rFactor going to test this. I can walk you through how to do it if you want to try it out ... I am sure in the near-term VOR will approve upgrade to the patched version. Probably upon it's official release by ISI.

That looks good. Kinda gives me the bug for circles again.
I'll wait for the "official" release. I'm having a hard time trying to keep up. When I'm working, I always get behind cuz I don't usually touch my computer at home.
