Default PCC changes for better racing...

Tonight, I'll post the following to help make your PCC racing better:

    1. Steering wheel sensitivity adjustments in rFactor

    2. A virtual rear-view mirror for use in the PCC

    3. FOV adjustment and seat position to help the "feel" of the car

    4. All setups I have for the PCC's...and the best one which I already posted.

There's more than this, but I can't think of them at the moment. Once I remember them I'll post them as well.

    Steering Wheel Sensitivity adjustments:

Go to the controller settings, under the "Controller 1" tab (which is the one my TSW is assigned to), I changed the sensitivity of each to the following:

The axis my steering set to 40%, the throttle to 25% and the brake to 10% and it made a huge difference in ALL the cars.

To know which ones to adjust, you need to look for which axis your steering, throttle and brake are set to on the mapping screen.

Virtual Mirror for use in the PCC:

First thing, know that the virtual mirror is in addition to the mirrors already present in the car. They are really meant for people who drive from outside te cockpit, but I found that since I move my seat all the way forward in the cockpit and my FOV is set to 65 that I can't see behind me out of the standard rear view mirror in the Porsche. This change has to be made in the PLR file, and then set back anytime you don't want it available....a pain in the butt somewhat, but better than not being able to see behind you.

To try this change, do the following:

    1. Open your PLR file with Notepad or Wordpad that is named the same as your player name in the game, for instance mine is located in the C:\Program Files\rFactor\UserData\Tim Collier folder and named Tim Collier.PLR

    2. In the PLR file, scroll down under [ Graphic Options ] for the line:

    Virtual Rearview In Cockpit="0"

Change the "0" (zero) to a "1" (one) and the virtual mirrors are now activated in the game.

    3. At first, you may see three mirrors representing the rear and two side mirrors, or you may not see a mirror at all. You can toggle between no mirrors, three mirrors, no mirrors and rear-view only by pressing the "3" key on your keyboard. This will also turn on and off the rear and side view mirrors that are in the cockpit (the little bit you can see), but you can now see behind you.

    4. If you need to adjust the mirror aim, hold down the left Shift key and use the keys that you have mapped to seat adjustments to alter the mirror as needed.

Now here's a Tip: I made a shortcut on my desktop to my PLR file, so I can open and edit it easily to change the virtual mirror setting as needed depending on the type of car I'm driving.

I hope this helps with seeing those V8's coming up behind you!

FOV (Field of View) Setting and Seat Adjustment Setting

The FOV Setting is located in the "Rules" Section of the Settings Menu, and the Default setting is a 50 degree field of view. The field of view is a visual representation of simulating peripheal vision that each person uses in real life, and a narrow FOV creates a "tunnel" effect, while a wide one distorts perspectives.

In NR2003, we used a FOV setting of 65 degrees, which was adjustable but I don't know of anyone who changed it. I changed this setting to 65 in rFactor and found the tracks easier to drive. Give it a shot and see if it helps at all.

As for the Seat Location in the Cockpit, this is a matter of taste, but I prefer to have the seat all the way forward and a height that puts the top of the steering out of view...but not too high so as to feel like I'm looking down at the track. I like to see a little bit of the hood as well.

Give these a try and post your thoughts....

All of my current setups in one ZIP file...

I left them in the subdirectories for the tracks so they will show up at each track....just unzip into your Settings folder under your Player Profile folder.
